A beautifully detailed book organised by sections of a traditional Japanese building. We found about how traditional architecture came about through influences of nature and by osmosis, Shintoism.

Guided from materials, construction techniques to room assembly, floor and ceiling detailings, we delve into intricate details such as Tokonoma, Shoji screens and Verandas. As much as the building is the architecture, gardens are covered in depth – from ‘borrowed landscapes’ to Kare-San-Sui (dry gardens), this book is informative and gorgeous to look at.
